Grand Cayman Fishing Report – March 11, 2025

Anglers, get ready for a great week of fishing in Grand Cayman! The weather forecast looks good for the next few days, with mild winds and calm seas setting the stage for prime fishing conditions. Whether you’re chasing trophy catches offshore or enjoying the vibrant action closer to shore, now is the perfect time to hit the water. Here’s your latest Grand Cayman fishing report, covering Grand Cayman deep sea fishing and Grand Cayman reef fishing.

Grand Cayman Deep Sea Fishing: The 12-Mile Bank Beckons

For those seeking the thrill of Grand Cayman deep sea fishing, the famed 12-Mile Bank is calling your name. Located just a short 35-minute run from shore, this underwater mountain-top drops off into depths exceeding 2,000 feet, attracting big pelagic species. With calm seas in the forecast, it’s an ideal week to target wahoo, mahi-mahi, and tuna. Marlin, the ultimate prize, is also possible this time of year, making every trip an adventure. The mild winds mean smooth rides out to the bank, giving you more time to focus on reeling in that dream catch. To make the most of it, we recommend booking Captain Clayton from Grandtime Watersports. Captain Clayton is as good as they get when it comes to 12-Mile Bank. His boat Reel Addiction is big, fast, and perfectly outfitted for trolling for Wahoo or Marlin or for drifting for Yellowfin Tuna.

A big Yellowfin Tuna

Yellowfin Tuna Action at 12-Mile Bank

This week a few of us went with Captain Clayton to 12-Mile Bank. We arrive just after sunrise and checked the current and began to troll for Wahoo. After 30 minutes we decided to change up and drift for Yellowfin. We set the first drift where some Man-O-War birds (Frigates) were circling and a few Tunas were breaking the surface.  The first 3 drifts were quiet with just a few trigger fish.

On the next drift, 12-year-old junior angler Max’s line became tight and after 15 minutes he had his first ever big Yellowfin (25lbs) in the boat. The Captain reset the drift and then it was my turn. The fish took the bait and made a screaming run. The reel was filled with a 30lb mono line and required patience and smooth technique to bring the fish up.  Now we had a 45lb Yellowfin over the rails.  Tanners turn, our final drift yielded the biggest fish, a beautiful 55lb Yellowfin. Tanner from Chicago was elated!   With the fish bag full we headed back to the Cayman Islands Yacht Club.

Grand Cayman Reef Fishing: Action Closer to Shore

If you prefer to stay closer to the island, Grand Cayman Reef fishing is heating up as well. The calm conditions are perfect for exploring the vibrant reefs and drop-offs just off the coast. Snapper, grouper, and barracuda are biting strong, while jacks and smaller reef fish keep the rods bending for anglers of all skill levels. The clear waters and gentle breezes make it a great opportunity to enjoy both the fishing and the stunning scenery. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a family looking for a fun day out, reef fishing offers something for everyone.  Additionally, consider a stop to snorkel or at the Grand Caymans famous Stingray City Sandbar or a snorkel stop. Captain Omar of Morning Spirit Charters offer reef fishing and Stingray/Snorkel Trips.
