Grand Cayman Fishing Report – December 16, 2024
Grand Cayman Fishing Report. It’s been a challenging couple of months with November and December bringing more wind than we’re used to, keeping many of our boats docked. However, the forecast for this week in Grand Cayman is turning in our favor, promising a delightful shift with much calmer seas and lighter winds.
Weather Forecast:
- Winds: The wind speed is expected to decrease significantly, with breezes around 10 knots, offering a smooth ride to the fishing grounds.
- Seas: The sea state is forecasted to be calm with minimal swell, perfect for inshore and offshore ventures.
With the improved conditions, this week looks promising for:
Grand Cayman Deep-Sea Fishing
- Wahoo: Expect a good bite as Wahoo are known to be active in these cooler months when the water calms down. The top Grand Cayman Wahoo techniques and bait include rigged skirted ballyhoo down in the water table and diving lures. Equipment includes wireline, down-riggers, and trolling weights. Consider High-speed trolling.
- Tuna: Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna might start showing up more frequently now that the waters are settling. Drifting with live bait or chunking could yield some nice catches.
- Mahi-Mahi: Look for weed lines or floating debris; Mahi-Mahi will likely be there. Small lures or rigged ballyhoo should work well.

Grand Cayman Reef Fishing
- Snapper, Jacks, and Grouper: With the seas calming down, reef fish like Yellowtail Snapper and various Grouper species should be more accessible. Live bait will attract the bigger ones, but squid or conch work wonders too.
Grand Cayman Inshore and Flats Fishing
- Tuesday Tarpon Adventures: With the better weather, this is an excellent week for our Tuesday Tarpon charters. Experience the thrill of these silver giants in the protected, calm inland waters
- Bonefish: With the calmer waters, bonefish activity has picked up slightly. Early morning or late evening sessions on the flats could be rewarding.
Special Notes:
