Grand Cayman Fishing Report, the Christmas winds have subsided, and the weather and seas have turned fair. Roshad, Deal, and Rick loaded up Makeover and headed to Grand Cayman’s Twelve Mile Bank with hopes Christmas Day would bring us gifts of big fish. Deal planned to show us how to use a Cuban Yoyo Hand Reel to catch a big Wahoo. We were skeptical.
We arrive at Twelve Mile Bank at noon. Roshad checked the direction of the current. It was running strong at 240 degrees. We trolled for bait and headed to the West end of the Bank Near the Southwest corner of Twelve Mile Bank to Drift for Grand Cayman Yellowfin Tuna. Roshad positioned the boat, and we started our drift. First, we chummed the water with some Sprat Chunks. Then we baited our line with Sprat and slacked out our line by hand to keep our bait with the chum.
On the first drift, I hooked up. Roshad’s expert coaching kept me calm and guided my form. Next, his excellent gaff work had our first Yellowfin tuna in the boat. It was a 30+ pound fish. Merry Christmas!
We reset the boat’s position for the next drift, and shortly after, I hooked up again and brought Yellowfin Tuna #2 onto the boat.
Next, it was Mister Deal’s turn. A fish had taken that bait on his handline. Slowly and with the patience of an experienced Cayman Fisherman, he retrieved the line, and Roshad grabbed the gaff. Extraordinarily, we had a 30 lb Wahoo in the boat. Smiles and high fives all around! Mister Deal, it turns out, is the “Real Deal” with his Yoyo Hand line. We can all learn from the “Old School.”
By sunset, we stuffed the fish bag like Santa’s sack of toys. We headed home with four 30lb+ Yellowfin tuna and Mister Deals Wahoo. All of our Christmas fishing wishes came true! Finally, we would have some good fish catches for our Grand Cayman fishing report.
The forecast looks good all week. There are plenty of fish around. Book a Grand Cayman fishing charter to celebrate the holidays. Feel like a kid when you catch the fish you wished for at Christmas.
