Grand Cayman Fishing Report

Grand Cayman Fishing Report for November 25, 2023

A good weekend for fishing!

Finally, the wind and seas have settled down, allowing more boats to do some Grand Cayman fishing.  Good weather was good news for participants in The Cayman Islands Angling Club’s annual “Driff N Dragg Shootout 2023” fishing tournament for wahoo and yellowfin tuna on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to favorable weather, Sunday was the full moon. Twenty-two boats and seventy-six anglers participated. Top prizes for the heaviest yellowfin tuna and heaviest wahoo was $$4500.  Anglers registered many catches from Twelve Mile Bank, South Sound, and Grand Cayman East End. Conversely, fishing along the wall close to the islands continued to be slow.

As, usual, Twelve Mile Bank had the most action, with many yellowfin tuna making it to the weigh station. At the time of this report, 25 Yellowfin catches were reported, with the heaviest weighing 44.5 lbs. Most were on the smallish side, between 25 and 35 lbs.

There were 17 wahoo catches registered from Grand Cayman East End, South Sound, and Twelve Mile Bank. The heaviest wahoo brought to the official scales at the Georgetown Yach Club weighed 50.6 lbs, but most wahoo were in the 25-30lb range.

Congratulations to all the winners and the participants!
