Rick Hagopian – Founder

Raised outside of Boston, Massachusetts, where the weather was cold more often than warm, Rick was always drawn to a warm sunny beach. His Dad loved taking the family on vacation to the Caribbean. It was that early that Rick decided he would live on an island in the Caribbean Sea.

After graduating from Syracuse University, Rick spent the 1st half of his career in the family grocery business. His next stop was in sports television, where he spent 17 years with NBC Sports in business development. He later joined On The Water, a media company dedicated to fishing in the Northeast.

It was his fabulous wife Christine that introduced him to the Cayman Islands. “When we met, she had a little place in West Bay where my love for her and my love for the island grew” Short visits became longer and longer stays. In 2019 they were married on Seven Mile Beach and soon moved to their home on Governors Harbour.

Avid boaters, both Rick and Christine started fishing the waters of Grand. Rick quickly realized fishing the Cayman waters is very different from fishing in New England and that most of what he learned over the years didn’t apply to fishing in the Cayman Islands. “There is a big difference between site casting for striped bass in 30 feet of water off the coast of Cqpe Cod and trolling for Marlin or Wahoo along the wall off of Northwest Point. Everything is different! The rods, the reels, the lures, the bait, the technique, and the nuances were all new to me.”

Eager to learn to fish in the Cayman Islands, Rick joined the Cayman Island Anglers Club and talked to everyone.  “I quickly learned that there is very little online information about fishing in Cayman.” That is how FishCaymanIslands was born!”
