Captain Dominick caught his second swordfish of the day using ” strip bait.” So The most common fish used for strip bait in the Cayman Islands comes from the belly of wahoo. When filleting the wahoo, a strip is cut out of the bottom or belly of the fish. This part of the wahoo is thin and will not be missed from your fillets for eating. This strip will provide a clean and even thickness of bait well suited for rigging. Leave the skin on, so it will help maintain the integrity of the bait for longer use and provide contrast and eye appeal. It is best to rigged with one “J” hook and a fluorocarbon leader. The fluorocarbon will provide better abrasion resistance. In conclusion, Vacuum pack if possible and freeze. It will be ready to go for your next deep sea fishing adventure in the Cayman Islands.
